Need for Nobles education. Natives of Ukraine in Land Cadet Corps times of Rozumovsky (1740- 1764)

Abstract

Brothers Rozumovsky’s Olexiy and Kyryllo immigrants from Ukraine, which reached very high positions in the hierarchy of Imperial Russia. In 1750 Kyryllo Rozumovsky became the Ukrainian Hetman. A feature that accompanied their career was the favored countrymen. The form of the new nobility of the democratic origin of Cossack officers involved getting the noble education. The main institution for the nobility in the Russian Empire was a Land Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg. With the assistance of Rozumovsky’s there studied natives of Ukrainian lands. The first such students were Rasumovsky’s nephews. Determine the number of these representatives of the nobility. Children from large families of Hetmanate studied in Corps: Maksimovich, Sulyma, Gorlenko, Kulabka, Miloradovych. Military career after the Corps already as a whole to gentility. The Corps became the refuge for the Ukrainians as students and teachers. However, in the early 60-years XVIII cent. observed certain limitations concerning the admission to that institution. Children of Cossack officers not recognized noble gentry. Gaining knowledge in the Corps became a prestigious goal for «new nobility». Most education was a powerful integration’s factor concerning the involvement of the Ukrainian gentry to common imperial nobility. Training in noble institution far beyond «Malorossia» desire new Ukrainian nobility to have such educational institution at home.
