Abstract
Treatment of chronic pain syndrome remains a challenge, especially in the elderly patients. Investigation of alternative mechanisms of pain occurrence will improve the effectiveness of treatment and quality of life in these patients. The article presents data of literature review concerning neuropathic pain in the most common diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The I part deals with general issues of terminology, epidemiology, pathophysiology and diagnosis of neuropathic pain.
