NEW DATA ON THE PRESENCE OF ERYSIPHE PLATANI IN ROMANIA

Abstract
Platanus × hispanica (London plane tree) is an ornamental plant widely cultivated in urban green spaces in Romania. In 2017 and 2018 trees affected by powdery mildew were found in seven cities located in South-Eastern, Eastern, North-Eastern, and central Romania. The causal agent of this disease was identified as Erysiphe platani, a poorly studied species in Romania. Besides data regarding the spread of this powdery mildew, the occurrence of the sexual morph of this species in Romania is also reported here. To confirm the identification based on morphological features, the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of one of the specimens was sequenced.
