New trends in computer math teaching
Journal Title: European Journal of Science and Mathematics Education - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 0
Abstract
In the first section of this paper we analyze the possibilities for using the new technologies and the corresponding changes in the methodologies to be used.We continue with some thoughts on the use of Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) in cases of applications of mathematics in Engineering. The use of CAS is now a common practice that has changed the behavior of teachers and students in teaching. Therefore, we must design courses considering the great potential of computer algebra systems to enhance learning. The methodological change should not be exclusive to the teaching methodology. At present, there is a debate on how to integrate CAS to help in assessment tasks and how to use CAS without limiting its use to the practical exams in Mathematics Laboratories. Thanks to the possibilities provided by the use of computers, it seems reasonable to change the teaching materials and the way in we assess the students. Finally, we will describe two experiences for an integrated use of a CAS in basic math courses that is currently being offered in Spanish engineering schools.

Comparative effects of concept mapping and cooperative learning strategies on senior secondary school students’ achievement in mathematics-trigonometry in Kano State, Nigeria
This article presents the findings from an experimental study on the effectiveness of concept mapping and cooperative learning strategies on SSII students’ achievement in trigonometry in mathematics. The research design...
An alternative triangle area strategy
We explore the mathematics engagement of a group ofmathematics coaches, working in k-12 mathematics education. The incenter of a triangle is used to derive an alternative formula for the area of a triangle inspired by Us...
The effect of project based learning in “ratio, proportion and percentage” unit on mathematics success and attitude
In this paper, our aim is to examine the effect of project based learning on 7th grade students’ mathematical success in “Ratio, Proportion and Percentage” unit and attitudes towards mathematics. This study was implement...
Middle school pre-service mathematics teachers' guidance for sixth grade students in problem solving process
The mathematics of the middle school has an important place in developing of algebraic thinking. Middle grades correspond to transition from arithmetic to algebra. According to Thompson and Smith (2007), quantitative rea...
