Journal Title: KONIŃSKIE STUDIA SPOŁECZNO-EKONOMICZNE - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
Disability is perceived as health and psychological problems, but also as diffi-culties with functioning within the society. The last example is very important from a sociological point of view because it has impact on everyday life and social roles. The literature shows how most people perceive the disabled. This kind of perception takes a certain shape due to widespread stereotypes. Such attitudes may ofted lead to the isolation ofthe “different” ones. This article presents mechanisms of social exclusion which were developed in Poland dur-ing the transformation period after 1989, with illustrative examples of people with disabilities.
