Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science Advances - Year 2015, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

The study was conducted at the Taraba State Collage of Agriculture, Taraba State, Nigeria, it was designed to assess the nitrogen intake of Yankasa sheep fed browse plant, the result obtained shows that, the mean nitrogen intake ranged from 3.25g/d – 4.37g/d, with T1, T2, T3 and T4 values at 3.29g, 4.37g, 3.60g, and 3.25g respectively. The urinary values of nitrogen is in the range of 0.22g/h/d – 0.23g/h/d, T3 has the highest value (P<0.05) of 0.23g while T1, T2, T4 has equal values of 0.22g. In the case of the faecal nitrogen, the values are in the range of 2.55g – 2.67g/h/d. With T4 having the highest (P<0.05) value of 2.67g, T3 2.65g, T2 has the least value of 2.55g and T1 having 2.60g. The percentage nitrogen utilized by the animals is in the range of 19.1 – 39.75%, with T1, T2, T3 and T4 values are, 33.2g, 39.75g, 24.25g and 19.5g respectively. There was statistical differences (P<0.05) in all the parameters between and within the treatments.
