Non-small-cell lung cancer

Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2011, Vol 24, Issue 2

Abstract

Despite the introduction of numerous new options in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer in recent years, survival rates of patients remain unsatisfactory. Further progress depends on successful attempts to clearly define the complex pathophysiology of the disease, since non-small-cell lung cancer is very heterogeneous malignancy. The development of new cytoxic and molecularly oriented cytostatic agents represents potential way of progress. Careful coordination between the theory and the clinic may help to identify new therapeutic targets and to better select optimal treatment methods for individual patients. Currently, the most promising are efforts to use antiangiogenic agents and epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
