Nuclear Medicine Procedures in Diagnosis of Infective Endocarditis
Journal Title: Nükleer Tıp Seminerleri - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Infective endocarditis (IE) is described as infection of the endocardial surfaces of the heart and if available prosthesis materials. Despite all up-to-date developments in diagnosis and treatment, IE is a mortal and morbid disease. IE causes numerous non-specific symptoms and findings in patients. Currently, various difficulties are observed in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of IE. Duke criteria is used to support the diagnosis. Also, echocardiography, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET)/CT, magnetic resonance, labeled leukocyte scintigraphy, blood culture, and polymerase chain reaction investigations are used. However, histopathological diagnosis is the gold standard. In this review, we discuss nuclear medicine methods (PET/CT and labeled leukocyte scintigraphy) that found place in current international practice guidelines in recent years for diagnosis of IE.

Possible Role of Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT in Evaluation of Systemic Treatment Response in Patients with Metastatic Prostate Cancer
Despite the move toward molecular diagnostics, our clinical imaging paradigms for diagnosing cancer and for monitoring cancer therapy have largely remained at the anatomical rather than the cellular or molecular level. I...
Lu-177 Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen Therapy of Metastatic Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer
Lu-177 prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has been increasingly used for treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. It is effective in pain palliation for bone metastasis and improves patient pe...
Treatment Approaches in Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women worldwide, accounting for 1.8 million new cases and 1.6 million deaths annually. Although most lung cancers are still diagnosed at a late stage, ther...
Endoscopic Modalities in Diagnosis of Lung Cancer
Lung cancer remains a common and deadly disease. Many modalities are available to the bronchoscopist to evaluate and stage lung cancer. We review the role of fiberoptic bronchoscopy, convex endobronchial ultrasound and e...
Positron Emission Tomography/Magnetic Resonance Imaging Practices in Oncological Imaging
Biomedical imaging plays an increasingly important role in primary staging, biopsy guidance, prognostic assessment, selection of treatment protocol, monitoring of treatment response and assessment of recurrent disease in...
