Abstract
The article outlines that the images of man and mankind occupy a special place in the works by Z. Gippius. Their peculiarity is due to the characteristic for the author of antithetic way of thinking. Its principal features are poetic comparison of the opposite sides of any issue, and semantic duality of any image.
