Abstract

From the narrative convention to method. Practising of social and cultural anthropology after the aff ective turn The idea to write this article was born while listening to conference speeches, whose authors talked about their experiences connected with conducting empirical research, omitting the epistemological and methodological issues. The purpose of this article is to recollect three selected examples of practising autoethnography, which have been embedded in the epistemological consideration to indicate the functions they perform in social and cultural anthropology. The author proposes to embed the discussion of auto-ethnography in the context of the changes observed in social and cultural anthropology, turning to the experi- ence and emotional dimensions of cognition, as well as in the context of the ontological turn in social sciences and humanities. As the author argues, the concept of affective anthropology allows to understand it in more extensive contexts than the refl exive return, with which it co-creates the foundations of post-humanities. Secondly, it characterizes more accurately the ways of practising anthropology situated in personal contexts of the researcher, whose purpose is not so much self-analysis, self-interpretation as the need for rethinking their own identity (not only as the researcher) in relation to other people, situations, phenomena, as well as to non-human social actors.
