OLD TURKISH ELEMENTS IN DIVAN-I HIKMAT

Abstract
Written language which constitutes literary field of the society, is whole of various accents and dialects used by people living in a wide geography. The Turkish written language is the treasure of words that out of use and which have undergone a change of voice or form and whose meaning has widened or narrwed from inscriptions in the Orhun, Yenisey and Talas regions until now. Old Turkish words in Dîvân-ı Hikmet which are important in this treasure are either out of use in the periods of Harezm-Kipchak and Çağatay Turkish and are still in archaic or used in various changes today. In this study, it is investigated how Old Turkish words in Dîvan-ı Hikmet, which is an important work of Karahanid Turkic era, survived in contemporary Turkic dialects while showing how Turkish language followed a historical development course.
