“ON THE CLOUDY SHORE” COLLECTION BY A. S. GRIN AS INTERTEXTUAL INTEGRITY
Journal Title: Вісник Одеського національного університету. Філологія: літературознавство, мовознавство - Year 2018, Vol 23, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of this article lies in revelation of signs of the intertextual relations among the stories included into “On the Cloudy Shore” Collection. Reasoning from the fact that A.S. Grin followed the thematically contensive principle selecting his works for a particular collection, the author of this article establishes some links among the works included in “On the Cloudy Shore” Collection at the level of fragmentation of the themes, invoking a correlation of the real and the fantastic in them, and with regard to the central character in the same. The stories by A. Grin have been scrutinized as a conceptually organic whole, in a complete form, having its own boundaries. At that, a particular attention is paid to such signs of the text boundaries as a heading and epigraph. A careful consideration has been given to different variants of arrangement of the internal space of the texts in these stories on the basis of study of the relations between its beginning and its end. At the same time, a due regard is given to an opportunity of opening the boundaries of the text and and transforming of all his stories included in the collection as an intertext space. All possible links among the stories included into “On the Cloudy Shore” Collection by A.S. Grin and those of any other authors have been considered. These links are seen as some “given” key motifs, a reference to some phenomena, a possibility of correlating a situation described in a story by A.S Grin and in such other work the lines from which were chosen by the writer as an epigraph for his own story. Finally, the study of “On the Cloudy Shore” Collection offers a solution of the problem of the peculiar features of A.S. Grin’s world.
