ON THE COMPARATIVE PHRASES WITH THE MEANING OF POSITIVE EMOTIONAL STATE IN RUSSIAN AND POLISH

Abstract
The article concerns the problem of Russian and Polish comparative phrases with the meaning of positive emotional state. They are used by the speaker for achieving more accurate, vivid expression of emotions. Functor как (kak)//jak creates two types of comparative phrases, linking the main lexeme with separate words or phrases that cover the function of background of the comparison: 1) adjective счастливый (shchastlivyj), довольный (dovol’nyj), рад (rad), szczęśliwy, zadowolony + noun, 2) verb радоваться (radovatsa), cieszyć się + noun. It occurs that in comparative phrases with the meaning of positive emotional state one can observe a great deal of variety in case of the objects of comparison that strenghten the expression of emotions. They are usually names of small children, young people, animals, biblical names etc. Among all of them, only nouns ребёнок (rebionok)/dziecko create fixed comparative phrases. In separate cases some other objects of comparison may be used (радовался, как татарин, укравший сто рублей (radovals’a, kak tatarin, ukravshij sto rublej), cieszy się jak nagi w pokrzywach). Such structures will be treated as a reflection of individual author’s style.
