On the Essential Meaning, Goal Pursuit and Function Realization of Death Education

Abstract
Clarifying the essence, goals, and functions of death education is essential for addressing the current dilemmas in death education practice in China. Death education is a practical activity aimed at awakening and transforming the consciousness of death, discovering the meaning of life, uncovering the potential of life, and expanding the value of life, thereby promoting a happier existence and a more authentic experience of living. The goal of death education is to reveal and uncover the true nature of death, encouraging individuals preoccupied with daily concerns to transform into genuine beings with a clear understanding of life's meaning, returning to an authentic experience of individual life. This is specifically reflected in achieving the functions of changing attitudes toward death, alleviating death anxiety and fear, promoting personal growth, and enhancing death quality.
