OPERATIONAL TESTS OF RAPESEED OIL AS AN EN-GINE LUBRICANT

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 228, Issue 6

Abstract

In the paper, both laboratory and operational investigation methodologies of natural rapeseed oil used for petrol engine lubrication – were presented. Selected test results, included the spectroanalysis of the noise emitted by the engine lubricated with rapeseed and mineral oil related to the aspect of the engine fuel type. Sample wear measurements have been carried out using a T05 tribological test apparatus. Oil test samples were taken each 1000 km run interval. Vibration and noise spectrum generated by the engine working in a steady-state of both load and rotational speed conditions were measured before the oil samples had been taken. The results of the rapeseed oil investigation were compared to the investigation results of the engine oil recommended by the vehicle producer and working in the same conditions.
