Optimalisation of Managing Local Government Unit (LGU) - a Perspective of Performers' level

Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2011, Vol 10, Issue 1

Abstract

Management systems nowadays have become the area of business in which organizations may try to find their competitive advantage. The article tries to show the most crucial elements of daily managements and evaluate them from the perspective of workers. Conducted research have showed that there are many different areas which are motivating workers. Many of them could be implemented more often in LGU to increase their efficiency with almost no costs. These are: fair evaluation of workers, nice atmosphere, changing daily behaviour and publicly praising workers. Many elements demotivate workers so they should be abandoned by managers. These are for example: too little salaries, lack of bonuses, wrong employees treatment, too often changing goals and inappropriate managing style. Important are financial motivators, so if LGU can afford it they should increase payments and use financial bonuses more often. However, there are also many other instruments that may increase effectiveness of work and that are not costly.
