Abstract
Life and activities of the prominent Ukrainian scientist D.O. Svirenko, whose activity is closely linked to the study of hydroecological consequences of Dniprogres dam construction, is reviewed in the article. Negative influence of dam construction on the environment is revealed. The role of D.O. Svirenko in further development of Dnipropetrovsk hydrobiology school of technogenically transformed freshwater ecosystems is considered.
