Orthodontic preparation for the surgical treatment of a Class III malocclusion with mandible asymmetry. A case report.

Journal Title: Medicine in Evolution - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 2

Abstract

Class III malocclusions are considered to be one of the most complex and challenging orthodontic problems to treat. Patients with class III malocclusion frequently display skeletal and dentoalveolar discrepancies, which lead to a distortion in facial appearance, but also functional and temporomandibular problems. A skeletal Class III usually requires a combination of orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery, especially when it is associated with poor facial esthetics and varying dentoalveolar and functional problems. The orthodontic preparation for the surgical treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusion includes joint planning between an orthodontist and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, in order to address the esthetic and functional needs of the patient. In this case report, we present the presurgical orthodontic preparation of an adult patient with skeletal class III malocclusion and an asymmetric mandible.
