Osprey – war for its own existence
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2012, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
The aircraft that flies like an airplane but takes off and lands like a chopper. It has been a long, strange trip: the V-22 has been 25 years in development, more than twice as long as the Apollo program that put men on the moon. V-22 crashes have claimed the lives of 30 men — 10 times the lunar program's toll — all before the plane has seen combat. The Pentagon has put $20 billion into the Osprey and expects to spend an additional $35 billion before the program is finished. In exchange, the Marines, Navy and Air Force will get 458 aircraft, averaging $119 million per copy.

Analysis of New Aerodynamic Design of the Nose Cone Section Using CFD and SPH
A new nose cones concept that promises a gain in performance over existing conventional nose cones is discussed in this paper. It is shown that significant performance gains result from the adaptation of the exhaust flow...
STATE OF THE ART TECHNIQUES USED FOR NOISE SOURCE IDENTIFICATION ON COMPLEX BODIES
Over the last few decades, many approaches have been undertaken in order to asses detailed noise source identification on complex bodies, i.e. aircrafts, cars, machinery. Noise source identification implies to accurately...
Wing in Ground Effect over a Wavy Surface
A vortex method has been used to investigate the effect of a wavy ground on the aerodynamic forces acting on a wing that flies in its proximity. The air is considered inviscid and incompressible. The problem is obviously...
Comparison of critical behaviors of elliptic and hyperbolic quadratic algebraic equations with variable coefficients
A comparison of the behaviours of the elliptic with those of hyperbolic quadratic algebraic equations (QAEs) with free and linear variable coefficients, in vicinity of their critical surfaces is made. The critic values o...
Unified formulation for URANS and LES in DxUNSp code
The aim of this work is to find a unified and efficient implementation of a LES turbulence model in an existing URANS CFD code, initially based on unsteady RANS equations with a k-ε turbulence model. This code has the ca...
