Osteoporosis in chronic inflammatory joint diseases

Abstract
Bone complications, including periarticular erosions as well as local and generalized osteoporosis, are typical symptoms of chronic inflammatory joint diseases and can lead to increased fracture risk. Recent findings show that good control of generalized inflammatory process is the main target for management of osteoporosis. The authors present a systemic li-terature review on pathophysiology, clinical picture and treatment of osteoporosis associated with chronic inflammatory joint disease.
