OSTROGA RYCERSKA Z ZAMKU KRZYŻACKIEGO W RADZYNIU CHEŁMIŃSKIM

Abstract
Presented richly decorated steel spur was discovered during the excavation of the Teutonic Castle in Radzyń Chełmiński. It represents type of spurs with long goad and developed crest, fit for heavy cavalry in full plate armour. This form seems to be typical for the 2nd half of the 15th c., however we can not exclude that it could have been used even earlier. Due to the overelongation of the goad and spectacular decoration enriched with gothic inscription the spur from Radzyń finds its parallesls among the most richly ornamented artefacts of this type. It is belived that similar spurs could have been used even by the monarchs.
