Parathyroid hormone and aldosterone and the risk of coronary-vascular diseases
Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2015, Vol 28, Issue 12
Abstract
Diseases in which parathyroid hormone (PTH) level is elevated, like primary hyperparathyroidism, exhibit a connection with pathology of the cardiovascular (CV) system:arterial hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy and atherosclerosis. In hyperaldosteronismthere are also cardiovascular complications which increase CV mortality. It isknown that normal high aldosterone level exhibit a connection with cardiovascular diseases(CVD) and with mortality in patients with coronary artery disease. There is a correlationbetween levels of parathyroid hormone and aldosterone, while pharmacologicalinhibition of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system – using commonly prescribed medicamentsin patients with cardiovascular diseases – results in lowering of levels of notonly aldosterone but also PTH. Medications with influence on lowering of PTH and aldosteronelevels may also significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. One of them is through having influence on the mechanism of artery calcification, whichis connected with arterial stiffness and more severe atherosclerosis and increases therisk of cardiovascular events.

Thyronamines – decarboxylated derivatives of thyroid hormones – new family of endogenous signaling molecules?
Thyronamines (TAMs) are derivatives of thyroid hormones, produced via decarboxylation of the alanine chain. They act as endogenous signaling molecules and were firstly discovered in early 50thies of the XXth century. The...
