Abstract

This article aims to perform a "memory exercise" bringing moments when, since university, Paulo Freire and his teammates tried to reverse the meaning of "service" and any kind of pedagogical work "with the people. ", thus seeks to recover some old passages of pioneering texts by Paulo Freire and his first team. The experiences from this passage by Paulo Freire and his first team at the University of Recife Extension Service appear for the first time in writing in the 4th issue of the Journal of Culture of the University of Recife, April / June 1963. Considering the time and Within this movement, it is worth noting that what was important in cultural action was a work of rescue, not denial of popular traditions. Thus, the action of Paulo Freire and his team leaves behind the lesson that the role of the “learned” and “committed” educator is to advise popular class men and women in the task of assisting cultural action through education and, It also encourages and sensitively instrumentalizes the people to reorganize themselves around the original elements of their own culture.
