Abstract
The article deals with the peculiarities of accentuation in the speech of politicians, actors, lecturers. Profession is one of the main components of the speaker's social status. Accentuation helps to reveal components of text which can be the communicative centre of the utterance. In this study an attempt is undertaken to describe the prosodic features of speech of the representatives of the professions with high voice responsibility in an extralinguistic situation without involving the direct performance of their professional roles. The subject of the study is the peculiarities of accentuation studied as markers of professional belonging of the speaker. The purpose of the study is to identify and describe the separate components of the text that are the communicative centre of the utterance. The goal involves the following tasks: - to identify the prosodic means with the help of which accentuation is performed, - to determine which unity of the text is selected and why. The material for the research were the records of the interviews with British actors, politicians and lecturers, the total duration of the sound is 2 hr. 40 min. The carried study of the peculiarities of accentuation in the speech of the representatives of the professions with high voice responsibility allows us to conclude that the speech of politicians, actors, lecturers meets the requirements of the style (informational and spoken) and genre (interview). There we can find the features of spontaneous monologue speech such as self-interruptions, self-corrections, the use of emphatic phrase stress, the use of the method of word-for-word accentuation. These features of speech indicate a high degree of development in the language skills of the informants due to their habit of public speaking in the limits of their professional activity.
