PECULIARITIES OF QUANTITATIVE PREDICATE CATEGORY IN THE STRUCTURE OF DICTUM

Abstract
The article reveals the content of dictum. Its predicate categories in the structure of the sentences are defined, quantitative predicates are identified and semantic types of such meanings as: 1) properly quantitative (predicates of definite quantity); 2) indefinite quantitative; approximate quantitative; 4) distributed quantitative; 5) quantity-ratio; 6) dynamically quantitative features are analyzed. Being the independent semantic class of predicates, numerals take the most peripheral place among other classes. Their characteristic feature is that sentence- making function, i.e use in the role of organizing center of semantic and syntactic structure of a simple sentence, is less typical than for other predicates. They form a semantic center of a two-part simple sentence, which predicate position is based on, which is linked to the subject in its atypical form for this position – the form of the genitive case. More natural for the quantitative predicates is their second function – use in the preposition sub-position, where they lose basic predicate feature – a semantic and syntactic valence and function as an element of the composed part of the sentence, being subordinated to other, main predicate of compound two-part simple sentence. Such functional specification of quantitative predicates predetermines the differences between their genetic and functional use: preposition sub-position of numerals is genetically primary, while functionally, it is secondary and predicate position for them is genetically secondary, while functionally, it is primary. Quantitative predicates express subject feature of quantity, mostly – static, rarely – dynamic, that manifested as the growth, increase or decrease of quantity of somebody or something. Quantitative predicates having their valence potential belong to minor units. Among six semantic types, five are one valence. They possess only left-sided valence of subject of a quantitative feature, that has the most peripheral character in the system of subject syntaxemes and comprise the names of living beings and definite objects. 13 Distinguishing of quantitative predicates generated the problem of syntactic and semantic-formal grammatical structure of two-part simple sentences with numeral component in predicate position with the subject in the form of the genitive case and with numeral component in the position of the basic part of substantival compound predicate that is a formal syntactic predicate position of predicate status, which is connected with the position of the subject, expressed by specialized form of the nominative case.
