PEDAGOGICAL PROVISION FOR GIFTED CHILDREN: EAST-UKRAINIAN EXPERIENCE

Abstract

Pedagogical provision for gifted children and young people has been a strategic direction of Ukraine's educational policy over the last two and a half decades. In Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts during the research period, regional systems of pedagogical provision for gifted pupils have developed. The formation of the system began in the early 1990s with the creation of educational institutions of a new type. With the advent of regional programs, the system began to gain integrity and got impetus to development. The article analyses the content of the first programmes of development of giftedness and highlights tendencies of updating and improvement of further and current regional programmes. The components of the regional system are defined in the article: the object and subjects of provision, purpose, content of pedagogical provision, means of pedagogical communication and conditions for the effectiveness of pedagogical provision. The role of scientists and research institutions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the development of the regional system of pedagogical provision for the gifted is revealed. The practice of pedagogical provision for talented students in schools, which is based on the principles of individualization and differentiation, is summarised. One of the important ways of implementing regional programmes was the creation of gifted children's banks, which included information about schoolchildren and their mentors. The main forms of preparation of teachers for work with gifted children are determined. The role of regional institutes of postgraduate education and the Institute of Spiritual Development of the person of Volodymyr Dahl East-Ukrainian National University in providing pedagogical support of gifted schoolchildren in the region is highlighted.
