Performance of Geosynthetic-Reinforced Soils Under Static and Cyclic Loading
Journal Title: Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
This paper investigates and discusses the composite behavior of geosynthetic reinforced soil mass. It presents the results of a series of large-scale laboratory tests supported by analytical methods to examine the performance of geogrid reinforcement subjected to static and cyclic pullout loading. The testing equipment and procedures used for this investigation are outlined. The results show that geosynthetic reinforcement can mobilize great resistance to static pulling load under high confining pressures. The reinforcement exhibits gradual deformation under cyclic loading showing no sign of imminent pullout failure for all levels of applied loads. In general, the results demonstrate that geosynthetic can be used in situations where loads are non-static, although care will be required in ensuring that appropriate factors of safety are applied to control the resulting deformation. A simplified analytical model for calculating the pulling capacity of geosynthetic reinforcement is proposed.

Experimental Study of an Air Lift Pump
In this investigation the effect of submergence ratio and air jacket on the performance of the air lift pump has been studied. Three types of air jackets in addition to five levels of submergence ratios were used. Each a...
Relationship between Grain Size Distribution and Radon Content in Surficial Sediments of Wadi Arar, Saudi Arabia
Surficial sediments with low radon content are desirable materials in construction applications. In this study, the relationship between grain size and radon content was investigated in sediments collected from seven sit...
State-Space Modeling and Performance Analysis of Variable-Speed Wind Turbine Based on a Model Predictive Control Approach
Advancements in wind energy technologies have led wind turbines from fixed speed to variable speed operation. This paper introduces an innovative version of a variable-speed wind turbine based on a model predictive contr...
Enhancing Transient Stability in Limited Variable Speed Induction Generator (Optislip) Based Wind Turbine (Case study: Binalood Wind Farm)
Enormous penetration of wind power in power systems and its contribution in covering a major part of grid load demand, require higher stability during disturbances. The most important issue of wind generators is the earl...
A Simple Phase Shifting Technique for an Injection Locked Oscillator
In Self Oscillating systems, locking of the oscillators can take place for injected signals close in frequency to nth harmonics of the free-running frequency. In this paper, we present a simple design for digital phase s...
