PERFORMANCE OF KVKS IN NORTH EASTERN REGION OF INDIA

Abstract
The study was conducted with 200 randomly selected beneficiaries of KVKs to find the performance of KVKs of NE region under different administrative units. Ten KVKs under different administrative units, viz., State department of agriculture; State Agricultural University (SAU) and Central Agriculture University (CAU); ICAR institutes and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) were selected purposively to represent all NE states. The performance of KVKs at beneficiary level was measured in terms of knowledge gain, perceived utility of the training content, performance of KVKs in terms of KVK mandates, utility of KVKs in improvement of production &productivity of selected crops and utility of other services of KVKs. The performance of KVKs at beneficiary level was calculated by the summing up of performance indicators. The overall performance of KVKs at beneficiary level indicated that KVK, West Tripura got rank I with 347.15 per cent followed by KVK, South Sikkim (322.40 %); Tirap (304.79 %); South Tripura (296.92 %); Tinsukia (278.98 %); Imphal East (264.54 %); Cachar (243.88 %); West Garo Hills (230.48 %); Mamit (210.67 %) and Phek (210.62 %) with II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X respectively. It was also found that the NGO performed best (347.15 %) followed by State dept. of Agriculture (279.29 %), SAU & CAU(262.47 %) and ICAR Institutes (246.01 %) with rank II, III and IV respectively.
