Performances of some Hybrid Dent Corn Cultivars (Zea mays indentata Sturt) in Trabzon Ecological Conditions
Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Agriculture - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
The research was conducted with aim to examine adaptation performances of ten hybrid dent corn cultivars at Trabzon province climatic conditions in East Black Sea Region of Turkey during 2015 year. The experiment was set up according to the Randomized Complete-Block Design with three replicates. Results of the research showed that differences among the grain yields and yield components of cultivars were statistically significant and the highest and the lowest value of yield components varied according to cultivars. The highest grain yields were determined in P1429 (1113.3 kg da-1) and P1547 (1019.7 kg da-1) cultivars. The lowest grain yield was identified in Bora cultivar (698.2 kg da-1). According to correlation analysis, while grain yield was positively and significantly correlated with number of kernel per ear (r=0.832**), ear weight (r=0.6789**) and ear length (r=0.555**), the non-significant correlations were determined in between grain yield with plant height, ear diameter, hectoliter weigh and 1000 grain weigh. According to path analysis, while the highest positive and direct effect was number of kernel per ear (p=0.970, 69.864%), it followed to 1000 grain weigh (p=0.138, 45.274%), ear weight (p=0.132, 12.019%) and ear length (p=0.068, 8.474%). Direct effects of plant height (p=-0.022, 3.310%), ear diameter (p=-0.266, 25.571%) and hectoliter weigh (p=-0.172, 17.500%) on grain yield were negative. It was advised to P1429 and P1547 cultivars because of its higher yields in the Trabzon (Of) climatic conditions. Significant and positive effect of number of kernel per ear on grain yield was the first and it’s followed to ear weight, ear length and diameter.
