Personality factors and alcohol consumption in university students in Ecuador

Abstract

Alcohol is one of the most prevalent addictive substances, both among young people and adults, and there is evidence that the most impulsive and extroverted consume more frequently and in high quantities. The purpose of this project is to analyze how personality traits are related to alcohol consumption patterns, the method is correlational, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design, the psychological instruments that were applied are the Big Five Questionnaire and the Alcohol Consumption Disorders Identication Questionnaire (AUDIT) with a sample of 207 students, the process was carried out through the Microsoft Excel program for the analysis of the scores obtained. Among the most relevant results, they indicate that the personality factors that university students possess the most are extroversion and neuroticism, in the same way that it is related to high alcohol dependence
