Abstract
The Perspective of the Other Perspective. The Critical Reflection on a Book of Anna Janicka Zapolska’s Affair. Scandals and Polemics. Review of: Anna Janicka, Zapolska’s Affair. Scandals and Polemics, Białystok 2013 The article reviews Anna Janicka’s Zapolska’s Affair. Scandals and Polemics (Białystok 2013). In her book, Janicka examines the reception of Gabriela Zapolska’s literary works. Having analysed various labels assigned to the writer: a naturalist, a scandalist and finally a secessionist – the author engages in a polemic with the current historical and literary approaches as well as with the feminist reflection. Some doubts concerning the order of those labels have become Janicka’s inspiration to begin her own search. “The third way” – Janicka’s reading strategy should, according to the intention of the author, lead to Zapolska. The author of this review examines this approach, based on the figure of the mirror, as she undertakes the questions concerning to the possibilities of Zapolska’s presence within a text and the justification for dispensing with the labels.
