Pervaporation Separation of Ethyl Acetate/Water Mixture Via Cross-linking Composite Sago/PVA Blend Membranes
Journal Title: Libyan Journal of Engineering Science and Technology - Year 2024, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Sago composite membrane possesses a microporous polysulfone substrate were prepared and tested for dehydration of ethyl acetate/water mixture. The microstructure, physicochemical properties and surface hydrophilicity of composite membranes were systematically investigated. Sago composite membrane have been cross-linked successfully by three was; chemically, thermally and both chemical and thermal. All the membranes were tested for pervaporation of ethyl acetate/ water mixture. The membranes were characterized to study the effect of several of cross-linking on the membrane behavior using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Degree of swelling (DS) and Contact angle measurement. Pervaporation of ethyl acetate-water mixture was conducted over a range of water concentration (1-4wt %) in feed solution at varied temperature from 30oC to 60oC. The pervaporation result showed an increasing in permeation flux and separation factor for cross-linked membranes compared to uncross-linked membrane.
