Phenol Biodegradation by Immobilized Cell of Pseudomonas sp

Abstract

To day our aquatic environment facing very big problem such as water pollution. This is very challenge to Environmental Biotechnology. Phenol and its derivatives have long been recognized as some of the most persistent chemicals in petroleum refinery wastewaters, with high toxicity even at low concentrations. Biodegradation of these compounds has been recognized as a potential solution for their disposal owing to its cost effectiveness and simplicity. In the present study various Physical and chemical parameters were optimized to enhancing the phenol degradation by immobilized cell of Pseudomonas sp (Range of pH 5 – 7, Temperature 25 to 400C and media nutrients glucose & yeast extract). The maximum phenol biodegradation capacity of bacteria at pH and temperature is 7.0 and 35oC respectively. The complete phenol degradation was achieved after incubation for 24 h. 15g/L Glucose containing media showed maximum degradation than other concentration. The rate of phenol degradation was also found to decrease with increased concentration of yeast extract as nitrogen source.
