Pochodzenie społeczne uczniów Gimnazjum (Liceum) Lubelskiego w latach 1832–1864

Abstract
Social origin of the students of Lublin High School, in the years 1832-1864, was examined on the basis of the personal documents found in the state archives. Complete data refer to 2063 students (70,72%) out of the total numer of 2917 students. High school students originated from various social groups. Sons of the nobility and the intellectuals dominated. Newly established law, concerning the nobleness, put into force in 1836, required proving the origins, which was really complicated and cost a lot of money. In most cases, attempts concerning the evidence of the origin were not undertaken, as there was no proof available. There are various terms reffering to the nobility, such as: ‘nobleman’. ‘identified nobleman’, ‘coat of arms noble’, ‘ country gentleman’. According to the sources, out of the total number of 2063 examined students, only 878 (42,55%) were of noble origin, and 566 (72,43%) were reffered to as the noble. What is more, there were 243 citizens (11,77%).
