Polska prasa o transformacji gospodarki. Próba zastosowania analizy ramowania (framing analysis

Journal Title: Przegląd Socjologiczny - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 2

Abstract

This paper investigates how the Polish press has framed the discourse concerning Poland’s transformation to capitalism. The analysis focuses on articles published in selected Polish dailies and weeklies in the beginnings of the 1990s, and then subsequently in 2005, 2007 and 2014. By applying the framing analysis methodology, seven interpretative packages have been identified. Four of them (the pro-reformist/support for Balcerowicz’s plan frame; the praise of entrepreneurship frame; the extreme neoliberalism frame; and the innovation frame) display a pro-capitalist stance, while the remaining three (the social justice/solidarity frame; the transformation irregularities frame; and the catastrophic frame) call either for altering the course of reforms or even for abandoning them completely. These findings may be seen as a starting point for a further analysis of the framing of the discourse on capitalism in Poland.
