POPULAR CULTURE IN SCHOOL INSTRUCTION: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Abstract
Abstract: The article analyzes the attempts to teach popular culture in school made by scholars in critical pedagogy. The following issues are presented: 1) theoretical postulates that justify the need to introduce elements of popular culture to school education and the proposed teaching methods; 2) difficulties encountered in meeting these postulates in practice along with the explanation of these difficulties provided by critical educators, 3) an analysis of the reasons why those attempts failed, the source of which lies in inadequate knowledge of the nature of child development, teaching and learning processes and the relationship between the medium (writing, television, the Internet) and consciousness.
