Journal Title: Revista Eugenio Espejo - Year 2024, Vol 18, Issue 3
Abstract
Porencephaly is a rare neurological disease characterized by the formation of congenital or acquired cerebral cysts filled with cerebrospinal fluid, which presents multiple symptoms, and its incidence is 3.5 per 100,000 live births. The case of a 24-year-old woman who presented tonic-clonic seizures, lasting approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds, with the post-ictal period with sphincter relaxation and loss of short-term anterograde memory due to replacement of essential anticonvulsant treatment by "herbal medicine." A hypointense lesion was evidenced at the level of the right tempo occipital lobe, with cystic characteristics and liquid content. Due to its complexity and effects on the nervous system, there are no guidelines for its management, but it usually requires a multidisciplinary approach. Treatments were implemented to treat the symptoms and provide a better quality of life to those suffering from this condition.
