ПОРЯДОК и ХАОС в кросскультурной перспективе / ORDER and CHAOS in crosscultural perspective

Journal Title: Kognitsia, kommunikatsia, diskurs - Year 2016, Vol 12, Issue

Abstract

The article deals with the conceptual dyad-antinomy ORDER – CHAOS in two ethnic cultures – Anglo-Saxon and Eastern Slavic. Their study in the context of the ethnic mentality is the subject of the analysis. In the first case the English and German languages serve the material for our investigation, and in the second case – Russian and Ukrainian. The linguistic conceptual analysis of ORDER – CHAOS aims to study the subject of their objectification by means of different languages along the parameters “concept – image – value”, and their functioning in discourse from the point of national mentalities view. We single out a connection between the word and communicative behavior of its bearer with the emphasis on teleonomic-regulatory potential of the verbalized concept. The study proves that, in general, English and German linguocultures have more common features than differences as to their attitude towards order and chaos. This is explained by their ethnic origin and affinity of languages. Moreover citizens’ obedience and respect for rules and laws strengthen this effect. The similar concerns Eastern Slavic ethnic cultures. Russian and Ukrainian mentality perceive ORDER and DISORDER in almost the same way.
