Porous structure of activated carbon from biomass

Abstract

Porous structure of carbon from biomass. The purpose of the present work was to prepare activated carbon (AC) from different lignocellulosic materials, by chemical activation using KOH, and examination of the chemical and textural characteristics of the material produced. Porous structure of activated carbons is strongly dependent on the physicochemical structure of the source material. Chemical activation of the biomass with KOH gives rise to carbon with high specific surface area. The surface area for the carbons ranged from 1362 to 2733 m2/g. The highest surfaces area show the activated carbon obtained from the fruit stones and hornbeam wood
