Port Automation and Performance: A Study of Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study focused on port automation andperformance: A study of Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) Calabar. It determined the effect of automation of port operations on the level of performance in the seaport. The exploration/research design (cross-sectional) and descriptive (indepth-interview) research design were adopted for the study.Data were analysed using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between automation of operations and performance of seaports. It was revealed that there was a significant relationship between automation of operation and customer satisfaction in seaports. It was revealed that there was significant relationship between automation of operation and quality service delivery in seaport. It was revealed that there was a significant relationship between automation of operation and decrease in port congestion. Finally, the study recommended that automation operation should be adopted to enhance performance and development of seaport. Automation of operations should be adopted to facilitate easy payment of cargo by customers and strengthen security at the seaports.
