Postępowanie terapeutyczne w śpiączce

Abstract
Coma changes the life of a patient and their family in a moment. At the acute stage of the illness the efforts and attention of the medical personnel are concentrated on keeping a patient alive and stabilizing their vital functions. At this stage an early neurological rehabilitation is invaluable but unfortunately very often unavailable. The lack of qualified personnel results in a patient being discharged or referred to a nursing home or other palliative care institution (Polish: ZOL – Zakład Opiekuńczo-Leczniczy) without adequate rehabilitation programme. In this kind of facilities or at home patients very rarely receive adequate neurologicalrehabilitative therapies, thus even the minimal needs of patient in coma cannot be fulfilled.
