Potential therapeutic effect of follistatin on chronic kidney disease
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 3
Abstract
The current treatment methods of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are still limited. Finding ways to delay the progression of CKD and reduce its complications will benefit more patients. Follistatin has been proved to bind several molecules in the transforming growth factor-β family and block their actions, therefore playing a positive role in inhibiting renal inflammation and fibrosis, improving diabetes, promoting fat metabolism, increasing bone mass and muscle mass and cardiovascular protection. It may be beneficial to CKD patients by preventing its complications. We summarized the related contents in the hope of opening up a new way for the treatment of CKD.
