POTT'S DISEASE RETROSPECTIVE EVALUATION OF RESULTS
Journal Title: Journal of Turkish Spinal Surgery - Year 1994, Vol 5, Issue 4
Abstract
Th results of 28 operations on 24 patients in whom the diagnosis was confirmed histologically as Pott's disease is evaluated retrospectively. 11 patients were femaie and 13 patients were male and the average age was 30.3 years ranging between 5 and 70 years. The mean follow-up was 19 months (3-60 months). The surgical proce-dures were performed in the Orthopaedic Clinics of Ankara Social Security Hospital between May 1989 and Feb-ruary 1994. Ten patients had anterior drainage only, while 4 had anterior drainage + anterior bone grafting. 3 had posterior instrumentation and fusion after having an anterior drainage in the first operation, 4 had posterior instru-mentation and fusion only, 1 had anterior decompression and bone grafting + anterior instrumentation, 1 had anterior decompression after posterior instrumentation and fusion in the same session and one patient had only bi-opsy from the posterolateral structures of the spine. One patient had anterior drainage from the posterolateral structures of the spine. One patient had anterior drainage from both sides of the lumbar region with an intervai of two months because of two seperate masses of cold abcess. Eight patients had neurological deficits preopera-tively in different severities, five of which completely resolved while two of them improved postoperatively. One patient died in the early postoperative period. At the last follow -up, the patients were evaluated neurologically, functionally (returning to work and daily activities) and radiologically. The conclusion is that the better and sooner the debridment, the better and more satisfactory the outcome.

THE EFFECT OF PREOPERATIVE CERVICAL SAGITTAL ALIGNMENT ON POSTOPERATIVE SURGICAL RESULTS IN PATIENTS TREATED BY ANTERIOR CERVICAL DISCECTOMY AND FUSION
Objective: Cervical degenerative disc diseases arise in some degenerative settings. These degenerative cervical changes may be a consequence of cervical sagittal malalignment. The aim of this study is to assess preopera...
