POWER GENERATION TECHNOLOGIES IN UZBEKISTAN: CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
Journal Title: International scientific journal Science and Innovation - Year 2025, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Uzbekistan’s power sector is undergoing a critical transformation driven by the need to improve energy efficiency, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and comply with international climate goals. Currently, more than three-quarters of electricity is generated using natural gas, with aging steam turbines still dominating the generation mix. However, recent investments in combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants and renewable energy projects indicate a gradual shift toward cleaner and more efficient technologies. This paper presents a technical and policy-oriented analysis of Uzbekistan’s power generation infrastructure, highlighting challenges such as outdated equipment, limited automation, and environmental impacts. It also outlines key opportunities for modernization and decarbonization, supported by digitalization, international partnerships, and strategic investment in renewables and green hydrogen.
