Pragmatism of South Korean foreign policy in the 21st century

Abstract
In the article the author examines the South Korean foreign policy. This paper discusses the specificity of Republic of Korea’s bilateral relations with its key external partners – the USA, China, Japan and Russia. The ROK-USA relations are a significant factor of peace and stability in the North-East Asia as well as in the Asia-Pacific. Seoul and Washington cooperate in addressing the challenges posed by North Korea. It is found, that relations of South Korea with China and Japan combine interdependence and rivalry. The current article also considers the cooperation of ROK and the EU. Special attention is paid to the mechanism of realization of Korea’s interests and goals in the region. It is found that the key foreign policy strategy of President Park’s administration is Trustpolitic.
