Abstract
The article examines the legal nature of preventive measures, their nature and significance in the course of criminal proceedings in the context of their use with the participation of counsel. The features of the participation of the defense attorney when deciding on the choice of a preventive measure to a suspect accused of criminal proceedings in Ukraine are considered. The analysis of scientific opinions regarding the study of the concept of preventive measures and the participation of the lawyer in deciding on the choice of a preventive measure. The proposed changes to improve the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine regarding the activities of the defender when deciding on the choice of a preventive measure to the suspect (the accused).
