Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 8

Abstract

One of important features for reaching achievement and facing risky challenges in future is resiliency. The present research is aimed to study the relation of resiliency among girl adolescents based on parenting styles of their mothers. Thereby, 167 female students with mean age of 14.43 and their mothers with mean ages of 42.13 were studied in Sirjan city. The researching tools were demographic questionnaire, Baumerind’s parenting style questionnaire (completed by students) and resiliency scale of Conner and Davidson (completed by mothers) (2003). The validity of the tools was confirmed in previous researches and Cranbach’s Alpha test has been used to study the reliability. Results of correlation test showed that there is a significant positive relation between resiliency and authoritative parenting style (r=0.39) and autharitarian parenting style (r=0.17) but it has an inverse relationship with permissive parenting style (r= - 0.09) and it was not significant. Results of the multiple regression test indicated that 0.21 of changes in resiliency variables can be predicted by authoritative parenting style variable. According to the present research, the best parenting style for developing resiliency in adolescents is authoritative style with the ability of predicting resiliency of children. In this style, mothers are very controlling and authoritative in addition to having friendly relationship with their children. This style help children adjust with social abnormalities, able to have independent life and they are preparing to accept social, personal and family responsibilities.
