Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 17, Issue 7
Abstract
This study examined the preferences of Humanities and Social Sciences students in Midsayap, Cotabato, Philippines regarding their preference in literary genre, literature approach, and literature activities. A researcher-made questionnaire was administered to one-hundred sixty five HUMSS students to gather data on their preferred social media platforms, literary genres, literature approaches, and activities. The HUMSS are the target group within the Senior High School curriculum in the Philippines because they have a specific focus on literature and language subjects, making them suitable for exploring preferences related to literature-based activities, genres, and approaches. The findings revealed that Facebook is the most preferred social media platform, and fantasy, romance, and science fiction are the favored literary genres. The Moral Philosophical approach is predominantly preferred, and language-based and stylistic activities are highly favored. Relationships between preferences were identified, but no significant relationship was found between literary approaches and genres or social media platforms. The results offered valuable insights for educators to design literature-based activities and enhance student engagement in literature learning.
