Abstract
In consideration of the destructive effects of synthetic polymers on the environment and their indissolubility in nature, and also the growth in human population and human waste production, which leads to major concerns in the environmental aspects, food industry, economics, and many other fields. Nowadays, there is significant effort being made in order to substitute synthetic polymers with biopolymers, which has attracted the attention of many researchers around the world. In this context, one of the major uses of plastic and synthetic polymers is their application in the packaging industry. The treatment of biopolymers and biodegradable material can improve their properties. In packaging handicrafts, considering the high value of the products, it is essential for the packaging to be desirable in both appearance and mechanical strength. Therefore, the use of wood is encouraged in the packaging for its exquisite and mechanical properties. Not only the characteristics of wood allows for a stylish finishing, wood, because of its unique structure is heterogeneous, heterotypic, and its constituent biopolymers (cellulose, lignin, and hemicelluloses) have a high mechanical resistance. In the case of packaged products with a high added value such as handicrafts, resistance to impact and fatigue during the transportation and storage operations is of the utmost importance. Wood is highly flammable. There for increasing of fire resistance properties are essential. By advancing of nanotechnology other field of science has been progressed, so that researchers in various industries to use this technology in their research. In this investigation, the samples of wood were treated nano-SiO2. Wood impregnated with nano-SiO2 treatments can be reduced flammability of wood. In this investigation, Fir wood (Abies alba) was impregnate by Bethel process in four levels concentration of 0,5,10 and 15 percent with using nano- SiO2 .The fire resistance properties of samples were measured by ISO-11925 standard. The minimum weight loss (%) and The maximum amount of fire resistance properties was observed in the concentration of 15% nano-SiO2. Bearing in mind the importance of handicrafts in cultural revival and propagation and the diversity of Iranian crafts such as miniature painting, marquetry, woodcarving, ceramics, pottery; It is safe to say that the spread and prevalence of traditional Iranian crafts and culture to the U.S. and the European countries directly depends on a more resistant and stylish packaging. Furthermore, the use of wood in packaging allows for the creation of beautiful traditional themes that are impressive and also serve as an added value to the original products.
