Preparation of TiO2/SiO2 double layer nanofilm using sol-gel spin coating technique on quartz substrate for self-cleaning applications

Abstract
TiO2/SiO2 double layer nanofilm was prepared by sol-gel spin coating technique using titaniumisopropoxide (TTIP) as the Titania precursor, and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as the Silica precursor. The spin coated nanofilm was deposited on the quartz substrates and it showed good uniformly in thickness. Quartz substrates were first coated with TiO2 and then SiO2 by spinning sols which were prepared by two different methods involving complex formation and hydrolysis, using ethanol or isopropanol. The film had good homogeneity with some porosity, which is suitable for the photocatalytic and self-cleaning applications. The surface morphology of the film was examined by the field-emmision scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The photocatalytic property of the film was evaluated using UV-Vis. spectrophotometer and methyl orange (MO) photodegradation test.
